GREAT NECK, NY — As Long Islanders practice social distancing and make personal sacrifices as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, many look to those on the front lines as inspiration. Patch will be highlighting Long Islanders who are going above and beyond in their work and community to help during the COVID-19 health crisis.

Ken Sperber is a volunteer with the Great Neck Vigilant Hook and Ladder Company in Great Neck. He reached out to Patch to recognize the efforts of a coworker who he says is working diligently to protect both the EMTs and the residents of his community.

According to Sperber First Assistant Chief Joe Oginski has been working with the EMTs in Great Neck, making sure they are staying safe on calls with the proper PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic. Oginski works full time as a Nassau County Police Officer but is also organizing ambulance shifts to insure local calls are responded to quickly.
