GREAT NECK, NY — For years, companies have delivered high-end steaks and meats directly to consumers through e-commerce platforms. Great Neck's Elliot Moscowitz noticed that there were no Kosher meat products available in the same way, and the idea for Prairie Street Prime was born.

The company, based in Great Neck, ships products for free anywhere in the country within three business days. There are certified Kosher cuts of bone-in prime rib, lamb chops, veal racks and more.

The company also offers recipes and tutorials to "demystify Koser cuisine."

Moscowitz came from a background as a Wall Street trader, working for banks like UBS to create futures-trading infrastructure. He tells Patch that after semi-retiring, he moved to Brussels for his wife's job, where he found that high quality Kosher meat and Kosher food was difficult to get in Europe.

"I made a Kosher food club where I bought collectively from France every month."

Then, after returning the U.S., he noticed the lack of Kosher choices in the direct-t0-consumer food delivery businesses.

"I was intrigued by that. I wondered why the Kosher world wasn't doing that. I heard, 'If it's such a good idea, why didn't the mega players do it?' That's the standard line you hear when disrupting —that someone had to cross that bridge to see something you didn't see. I felt I was that guy."

Moscowitz comes from a very religious community but "was a black sheep and did different things," he said.
