Art League To Present Car-Inspired Artwork Exhibit
Exhibit will be featured at Acura of Huntington.
The Dix Hills-based Art League of Long Island and Acura of Huntington will present “Driven By Art,” an exhibit celebrating the automobile and its highways and byways.
"Driven by Art" will feature photography, mixed media, sculptures, paintings, and jewelry created by 10 award winning Long Island artists.
On view will be:
• Doug Reina's paintings of vintage vehicles
• Antonio Masi's iconic paintings of New York's bridges
• Alice Sprintzen's found object art jewelry made from fragments of license plates and tail lights
• Thomas Germano's paintings of local street scenes
• Paintings from Yohah Ralph's "Petroleum Age" body of work
• Lisa Berley's photographic works exploring the geometry of New York's urban and suburban landscape
• Hap Bowditch's whimsical sculptures (one made from parts of a Bentley)
• Painter Pat Ralph's handmade, imaginary license plates of the eight Northeast states
• The unique viewpoint of Andrea M. Gordon's close focus photography
One iconic work by nationally and internationally acclaimed photographer Joseph Szabo from his signature series documenting American youth and culture in the 1970's will be on display at Acura. Szabo's will also be on view at the Heckscher Museum's "Car Culture" exhibit that opens April 27.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Thursday, April 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Acura of Huntington. Event-goers are welcome to view and vote on their favorite pieces throughout the evening. Artwork will be available for purchase and light refreshments will be served.
In addition, 10 lucky people attending the exhibit will be eligible to win free tickets worth $75 each to the Art League's fundraising event Friday, June 14, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., sponsored by Acura of Huntington. The event will feature Franklin Hill Perrell's lecture "Picasso and his Women,” along with a Spanish flair of tapas, light fare, and wine, as well as raffle prizes.
