Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Melville Crash

The bicyclist was airlifted to a nearby hospital on Tuesday afternoon, police say.

A bicyclist was airlifted for serious injuries after colliding with a car on Tuesday afternoon in Melville.

According to fire officials, the collision occurred on Bagatelle Road and North Service Road at about 1:50 p.m. The bicyclist was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk Police helicopter, which landed at Chestnut Hill School.

The Melville Fire Department responded to the scene with three ambulances, an engine, paramedic unit and fire police. Units were under the direction of Assistant Chief David Kaplan and Bill Schmitt, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
