Dix Hills Fire Department Holds Open House: Photo Gallery

Visitors watched firefighters and EMS crews handle a car fire, use heavy rescue tools and battle a simulated structure blaze.

DIX HILLS, NY — The Dix Hills Fire Department recently held its Fire Prevention Open House at its training facility in the back of Station One on Deer Park Avenue, according to public information officer Steve Silverman.

Visitors were able to see firefighters and EMS crews in action as they handled a car fire, used heavy rescue tools and battled a simulated structure fire. Personal and home safety demonstrations were made to show how to escape a fire, as well as the proper use of child car seats. The Dix Hills Rescue Squad also showcased the latest in lifesaving technology.

The Suffolk County Police K9 Unit gave an informative presentation with a canine and officer team.

The Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services participated with their All Hazards Training Trailer, an interactive hands-on exhibit that uses simulated fire and smoke to teach fire safety in the home.
