Dix Hills Man Convicted Of Fatally Shooting Girlfriend 8 Times

He faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

A Dix Hills man was convicted on Friday of murdering his girlfriend by shooting her eight times following an argument in April of last year, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini.

Eric Bermudez, 37, was found guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He faces up 25 years to life in prison for the murder charge.

“While nothing can ease the suffering caused by [Bermudez], we hope this conviction provides some solace to the victim’s family in knowing that their loved one’s murderer will be held accountable for his actions,” Sini said in a statement.

On April 13, 2017, Bermudez was in a dispute with his girlfriend, 37-year-old Dix Hills resident Regina Flecha, at their Black Pine Court home when Flecha left the house at approximatley 7:30 p.m. The DA says Bermudez followed Flecha in his car to Burroughs Avenue and fired 10 shots at her, striking her eight times. Bermudez then pulled Flecha into his car and drove away from the scene, the DA said.

Officers observed Bermudez's vehicle speeding on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore about 20 minutes later and initiated a traffic stop, leading to the discovery of Flecha in the front passenger seat. The murder weapon, two additional guns (including one that was stolen) and a silencer were also recovered from the vehicle, the DA says.
