Dix Hills Street Renamed 'Scott J. Beigel Way'

Scott Beigel's parents and sister posed with the new street sign alongside the Huntington town supervisor.

Hart Place in Dix Hills will be known as "Scott J. Beigel Way"in honor of the Long Island native killed in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in February.

The Huntington Town Board approved the street renaming at a meeting on Tuesday night. Beigel's parents, Linda Beigel Schulman and Michael Schulman, as well as his sister Melissa Zech were present at the Board meeting.

A dedication ceremony will take place at Hart Place once the weather improves.

Beigel was a geography teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the school's cross country coach. He was struck by a bullet as he shut a classroom door behind him. He had unlocked his classroom briefly to let more students take shelter.
