Driver Hospitalized After Car Strikes Tree On Northern State

Firefighters used heavy rescue tools to remove the trapped driver on Saturday night.

DIX HILLS, NY— A woman was hospitalized on after her car crashed into a tree on the Northern State Parkway on Saturday night.

According to fire officials, the woman was traveling westbound, west of Deer Park Avenue near Dix Hills Road, when her Toyota sedan struck a tree and ended up teetering on top of a guardrail at 11:30 p.m.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the crash and rescued the trapped driver using heavy "Jaws of Life" rescue tools by removing both doors of the vehicle.

The Dix Hills Rescue Squad transported the woman to Southside Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

About 25 fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene with three heavy rescue trucks, two ambulances and a paramedic responder. Units were under the direction of Second Assistant Chief Joe Williamson. New York State Police were also on the scene, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
