6 Hurt In Hit-And-Run Limo Crash

The driver of a Mercedes fled the scene on foot after the crash Sunday morning.

A driver fled the scene after crashing head-on into a limousine, injuring six people in Melville on Sunday morning.

According to authorities, a man was driving a 2012 Mercedes Benz sedan eastbound on Wilmington Drive near Chiswell Drive when he veered into the westbound lane and crashed into a 2014 Lincoln limousine at 1:35 a.m.

The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene and was seen being picked up by a person driving a dark colored sedan soon after the crash.

The driver and all five passengers in the limousine were taken to Nassau University Medical Center and Huntington Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The limousine is owned by Limos Long Island of Westbury, police say.

The Melville Fire Department responded to the scene with Rescue Squad ambulances. The Dix Hills Fire Department and Plainview Fire Department provided assistance. About 35 fire and rescue personnel were on the scene with seven ambulances, an engine, paramedic and first responder units. Units were under the direction of Assistant Chiefs David Kaplan and Jason Bernfeld, according to PIO Steve Silverman.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
