Firefighters Battle Melville House Blaze
The home was unoccupied. About 40 firefighters battled the early morning fire.
MELVILLE, NY — Firefighters battled a home fire in Melville early Friday.
The Melville Fire Department responded to a fire on Breton Avenue around 12:40 a.m., said public information officer Steve Silverman.
Don Barclay, the 2nd assistant chief with the department, arrived first and asked for help from the Huntington Manor and Dix Hills fire departments. East Farmingdale and Plainview firefighters provided standby coverage.

Roughly 40 firefighters aggressively battled the fire at the home, which was not occupied. It took about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control, Silverman said. No one was injured.
The Town of Huntington Fire Marshal and Suffolk County Police Arson Squad are investigating.

Barclay and 3rd Assistant Chief David Kaplan handled operations, while Chief of Department Bill Schmitt commanded the firefighters. Suffolk County Fire-Rescue Coordinators were on the scene assisting.
