HHH Student Recognized For Prestigious STEM Achievement
She was only one of five Long Island students selected to the National Junior Sciences and Humanities Symposium.

A Half Hollow Hills High School East sophomore was recently recognized as one of only five Long Island students selected as delegates for the 56th National Junior Sciences and Humanities Symposium (JSHS).
Cassandra Ye was recognized at the district’s March 19 Board of Education meeting in Dix Hills.
“I commend Cassandra Ye for her dedication and hard work that resulted in her selection for this prestigious symposium and was privileged to honor her,” Legislator Tom Donnelly said in a press release. “She makes the entire community proud.”

The JSHS competition recognizes students for outstanding achievements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Yee’s project suggested the existence of a stress-response pathway in an aquatic plant which could be used to alleviate the harmful effects of heavy metal pollutants on plants. She will present her findings at the Symposium, which will be held from May 2 to 5 in Hunts Valley, MD.
