Melville Woman Run Over And Killed By Charter Bus In Manhattan

The woman was crossing the street in the Financial District when she was struck and killed Thursday night, police said.

A 28-year-old woman from Long Island was struck and killed by a charter bus as she crossed a Lower Manhattan street Thursday night, police said.

The driver of the Tennessee-bound charter bus ran over Kimberly Greer, of Melville, at about 7:30 p.m. as she crossed Leonard Street between Centre and Lafayette streets, police said.

Police took the 50-year-old driver Xi Chen into custody at the scene. He was charged with motor vehicle failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care, authorities said.

Greer was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital where she was declared dead.

A police investigation is ongoing.
