Responders Recognized For Reviving Toddler In Dix Hills

The 2-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a backyard pool in July.

Members of the Dix Hills Fire Department and Suffolk County Police Department were recently recognized for helping to revive a toddler who was found unresponsive in a backyard pool in July.

In July, the Dix Hills Rescue Squad and Suffolk police responded to a report of a 2-year-old girl who was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest in a backyard pool on Kilmer Avenue in Dix Hills on Monday, July 9.

Police officer Michael Morgan was first to arrive on the scene and began CPR, with assistance from Dix Hills firefighter Bill Stio. Paramedics Robert Cabano and Scott DiPino then arrived to the scene and began Advanced Life Support treatment with the assistance of EMTs Maresa Spizzirri, Louis Aquino and Gerard Rosciano, Jr.

En route to the hospital, responders revived the child, who then began breathing on her own. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was listed in serious condition.

On Tuesday, the rescuers were all presented with the Suffolk Regional Emergency Medical Services Council CPR Save Award for their lifesaving efforts.
