Teen Struck By Car While Crossing Street In Dix Hills

The 16-year-old is in serious condition.

A driver struck and seriously injured a teenager crossing at an intersection in Dix Hills on Wednesday night, police say.

According to authorities, 23-year-old Dix Hills resident Caitlyn Kennedy was driving a 2007 Ford sedan eastbound on Wolf Hill Road, at the intersection of Caledonia Road, when she struck 16-year-old Dix Hills resident Abrar Shah Rahman at 9:45 p.m.

A Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter landed at the nearby Signal Hill Elementary School and airlifted Shah Rahman to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Kennedy was not injured from the crash and remained at the scene.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the scene to assist Suffolk Police with an engine, ambulance, paramedic unit, first responder and three heavy rescue trucks. Units were under the command of Chiefs Tom Napolitano and Alan Berkowitz.
