1 Dead In Fatal Fire On Christmas In Harlem: FDNY

HARLEM, NY — A fire broke out in a 21-story apartment building just after midnight on Christmas in Harlem, killing one person, New York City Fire Department officials said.

According to the FDNY, the fire broke out at 2660 Frederick Douglass Blvd. at 12:55 a.m. on Dec. 25, while some were still celebrating Christmas Eve.

The building is part of a New York City Public Housing complex.

More than 70 firefighters and emergency personnel responded to the scene, and got the fire under control by 1:38 a.m. on Wednesday.

One resident was pronounced dead at the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, FDNY officials said.

On Thursday, the FDNY is sharing fire safety information in front of the nearby Key Food Supermarket located at 2630 Frederick Douglass Blvd., officials said on X (formerly Twitter).
