27 East Harlem Apartments Hit Affordable Housing Lottery
Two dozen apartments in a former school building are open for applications, though the income minimum may make them inaccessible for some.
EAST HARLEM, NY — Two dozen apartments in a new East Harlem building have been listed on the city's housing lottery, but their minimum income requirements may make them inaccessible to some residents.
This week, the city posted a housing lottery for 2269 First Ave., a former school on the corner of East 117th Street that has been converted into an apartment building. It includes 27 units listed as "affordable," available to residents making 130 percent of the area median income.
That works out to a minimum income of $58,286 for a single person, or as much as $167,570 for a five-person household.

The available apartments include seven studios, 16 one-bedrooms and four two-bedroom units. The building is a few blocks east of the 116th Street 4-5-6 station, and within walking distance to the East River Plaza shopping center that includes Costco and Target.
Apartments feature high ceilings, chef's kitchens, in-unit laundry and large open spaces, according to the listing. Other building amenities include a fitness center and a rooftop terrace.
