HARLEM, NY — Whether you prefer Shakespeare plays or hip-hop beats, there's something for you in Harlem this weekend.

First, on Saturday, comes the Shakespeare: a free performance by the Public Theater's Mobile Unit will be held at Johnny Hartman Plaza in Hamilton Heights at 4:30 p.m.

Part of a citywide "Summer of Joy" tour in partnership with the National Black Theatre, the show promises Shakespeare "in an exciting new form." Titled "Shakespeare: Call and Response," the show by Patricia McGregor mixes Shakespeare's works with Mad Libs and the improv group Freestyle Love Supreme.

Preceding the Shakespeare performances will be productions by neighborhood groups and a spoken-word show by writer Malik Work that "blends hip-hop and storytelling in a modern version of epic poetry."

Next, on Sunday, will be the Ted Smooth Old School Jam at the newly-expanded 125th Street Plaza, under the Park Avenue Metro-North tracks.
