Community Groups Files Plans For New Hamilton Heights Building

The five-story building will house new programming spaces for The Brotherhood/Sister Sol.

HAMILTON HEIGHTS, NY — A community organization that provides services and support to youth in Harlem has filed plans with the city Department of Buildings to construct a new facility in Hamilton Heights.

The five-story development will rise next to The Brotherhood/Sister Sol's current building on West 143rd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, according to building plans. The structure will be 59-feet-tall and consist of 13,115-square-feet of space zoned for commercial uses, according to the plans.

The new building will include space for a kitchen, dining hall, greenhouse, art room, staff offices and other program spaces for the The Brotherhood/Sister Sol. The rooftop of the new building will serve as an outdoor recreation space.

The organization "provides comprehensive, holistic and long-term support services to youth who range in age from eight to twenty-two," according to its website.

Urban Architectural Initiatives is listed as the new development's designer on plans filed with the city Department of Buildings.
