HARLEM, NY — A woman was arrested Monday afternoon one day after a brutal stabbing killed a Harlem man, according to police.

Michelle Hernandez, 44, was cuffed in connection with the brutal attack, a day after 47-year-old Alejandro Santos was killed in his apartment, police said. The Harlem resident was charged with murder, police announced Tuesday morning.

The fatal stabbing happened inside a building on W. 147th St. near Frederick Douglass Blvd., officials said.

Police immediately took Hernandez into custody for questioning at the scene of the murder right after the stabbing, police said.

Although authorities have not officially confirmed the nature of their relationship, police stated that Hernandez resided in the same apartment where Santos's body was found.

According to a neighbor who spoke to the Daily News, she dialed 911 for Hernandez and then overheard her through the door, informing first responders that Santos had inflicted the stab wounds upon himself.

Hernandez is set to be arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday morning.
