East Harlem Fire Injures 9, FDNY Says

Six of the injured were civilians and three were NYPD officers responding to the fire.

EAST HARLEM, NY — Nine people were injured after a fire broke out in an East Harlem apartment building early Monday morning, an FDNY spokesman said.

The blaze erupted on the second floor of 114. E. 116th St., a five-story residential building located between Lexington and Park avenues, shortly after 2 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Firefighters operated on the scene for about an hour before declaring the fire under control.

Of the nine people who were injured, six were civilians and three were NYPD officers, an FDNY spokesman said. All suffered minor injuries, none of which are considered life threatening.

City fire marshals will investigate the cause of the fire, an FDNY spokesman said.
