East Harlem Office Tower On Pathmark Site Now Seeking Tenants
Construction is finally underway on the full-block office tower being built on the former Pathmark supermarket site on East 125th Street.
HARLEM, NY — A developer is seeking tenants for the new, nine-story office building being constructed at the site of a former Pathmark supermarket on East 125th Street.
The long-planned tower will include more than 440,000 square feet of office space and 50,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, developer Extell said Tuesday.
For more than five years, the empty supermarket building blighted the full block of 125th between Third and Lexington Avenues. Extell filed plans in April to knock down the two-story structure, and work appeared set to begin last week when a plywood fence finally went up around the site, with signs saying the demolition would last around four months, according to Harlem Bespoke.

The building will be among the most prominent additions to 125th Street, where construction has boomed since the city passed a sweeping rezoning plan for East Harlem in 2017, intended to encourage new business and residential development.

City Councilmember Diana Ayala, who represents East Harlem, said in a statement that the neighborhood "will continue to prosper with new public and private investment."

"The redevelopment of the 125th street corridor by Extell as well as others, is a key part of that investment and we look forward to the continued partnership as we work to create a more vibrant and burgeoning corridor," Ayala said.
Designed by the architecture firm Gensler, the building, which has been dubbed Harlem Headquarters, will also include 12-foot ceilings, large windows and a rooftop terrace with sweeping city views. It has an estimated completion date sometime in 2022.
