Harlem's 'Royal Tenenbaums' Home Now Offering $40 Airbnb Stay
The extravagant Hamilton Heights home, famous for being featured in a Wes Anderson film, will offer a cheap two-night stay.
HARLEM, NY — The movie-famous Hamilton Heights house that caused a stir when it was listed for rent last week is back with a new offer: a two-night stay for just $40.
The extravagant six-bedroom home on Convent Avenue and West 144th Street is famous for being featured in "The Royal Tenenbaums," Wes Anderson's 2001 film about a large, dysfunctional family.
Last week, the 8,000-square-foot mansion appeared in a real estate listing for the first time since 1999, with a $20,000-per-month asking rent.

Building off that news, the owner announced Wednesday that the Tenenbaums house has been listed on Airbnb, offering a two-night stay for two guests in one of the home's bedrooms, starting May 29.
Bookings open at noon on May 26 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Aside from its film fame, the home at 339 Convent Ave. has a historic legacy. Built by the 19th-century developer Jacob D. Butler, the five-story home has hosted guests including former mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, and was once home to the politician Charles H. Tuttle, who challenged Franklin D. Roosevelt for governor in 1930, the listing says.
"Spanning 6,000 feet, the iconic home offers plenty of space for guests to rest and relax amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City, with formal living and dining rooms, a chef’s kitchen and a grand foyer," the listing boasts.
"Special touches like original stained-glass windows, decorative woodwork, gas-operated fireplaces, and fully modernized bathrooms will let guests experience the best of both past and present."
