Hotel, Apartment Towers Begin Rise On Harlem's 125th Street
Architects behind the large developments unveiled renderings of the new buildings.
HARLEM, NY — Architects revealed renderings of two new towers — a hotel and an apartment complex — coming to Harlem's 125th Street.
The 26-story Marriott hotel and 25-story apartment building are set to rise above the historic Victoria Theater, located between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and Frederick Douglass boulevards, according to a press release from Aufgang Architects. Both towers were designed by the architecture firm.
The Marriott hotel will front West 125th Street and contain 210 rooms, according to a press release. The Victoria Theater, built in 1917, will be restored and serve as the new hotel's lobby.

"Restoring this important part of Harlem’s cultural history was a major objective in designing the new Marriott Hotel. This example of historic preservation and adaptive reuse is key to sustaining Harlem’s cultural identity as part of the community’s economic growth and development, Ariel Aufgang, principal of Aufgang Architects, said in a statement.
The apartment tower will front West 126th Street and contain 191 residential units, according to a press release. Half of the units in the new building will be offered at rents below market rate, but the levels of affordability are currently unknown.
