Lottery For 24 Affordable Harlem Units Opens
The apartments are spread out between two buildings in Harlem and rent for as little as $913 per month.
HARLEM, NY — Two lotteries for 24 below-market units in Harlem will begin accepting applications Thursday, according to the city's Housing Connect website. The buildings, located at 40 West 126th Street and 2211 Third Avenue, are renting newly-construct studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments at no more than $1,183 per month.
Twenty-two of the units are located in 2211 Third Avenue — located near East 120th Street in East Harlem. Three of the units are studios renting for $913 per month, seven of the units are one-bedroom apartments renting for $980 per month and 12 of the units are two-bedroom units renting for $1,183 per month. The units are being offered for families earning 60 percent of the area median income.

The remaining two units are located in 40 West 126th Street. Both units are one-bedrooms renting at $1,015 and available to individuals earning between $34,800-$40,080 annually or families of two earning between $34,800-$45,840 annually.

Prospective tenants can apply for the housing lottery online using the Housing Connect website. Applications must be submitted by August 3 for units located in 40 West 126th Street and by Sept. 12 for units in 211 Third Avenue. There will be no application fees, according to the city Housing connect website.

In October the city announced it would be revising the rules of affordable housing lotteries to protect low-income residents from being discriminated against. Applicants to affordable housing lotteries will no longer be subject to rejection based solely on poor credit scores or past disputes with landlords in housing court.
