Man Dies In East Harlem Apartment Fire, Police Say
The fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment of a Park East Houses building on Wednesday afternoon.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A man died Wednesday when a fire broke out inside his apartment in an East Harlem public housing building, police said.
The fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment of the Park East Houses building on East 122nd Street between Lexington and Park avenues shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said. After the flames were extinguished, firefighters discovered 55-year-old Darryl Barnes suffering large burns to his body, police said.
Medics rushed Barnes to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said police. The 55-year-old man was listed as the resident of the apartment where the fire started.

The city fire marshall's office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fatal fire, police said.
