HARLEM, NY — A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a brawl in Harlem two months ago in which two people were killed.

The May 28 fight on the corner of West 151st Street and Macombs Place ended with 31-year-old Corey Brown being shot to death, police said. He lived just blocks away, in the Esplanade Gardens housing complex.

Police on Wednesday also revealed a second victim from the fight: 24-year-old Jordan Exum, who was stabbed in the hip and later died at Harlem Hospital. Exum lived just down the block from where he was killed.

On Monday, police arrested Jermaine Shaw, a Bronx resident, and charged him with murder for allegedly shooting Brown. No arrests have been made in Exum's stabbing.

The fight, which happened shortly before 3 a.m. on May 28, was part of an ongoing dispute in which "someone disrepected somebody else," an NYPD spokesperson said.

Police responding to reports of gunshots learned that Brown had been shot in the upper right leg and brought to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Exum was taken to the hospital by paramedics.

The investigation is ongoing, police said this week.

Crime has risen so far this year in the NYPD's 32nd Precinct, where the brawl took place. Overall crime is up 12 percent compared to this time last year, including a 63 percent rise in shootings and a 58 percent increase in burglaries — though last year's numbers may have been deflated by the pandemic.
