HARLEM, NY — A new apartment building is being planned for the heart of 125th Street, city records show, as Harlem's development boom shows no signs of slowing.

A developer filed plans Wednesday for a new 12-story building at 219-231 West 125th St., between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard. Currently home to a one-story building that formerly housed a Banco Popular, the address is right next door to the major Victoria Theater Redevelopment Project, and a few doors down from the Apollo Theater.

The new building will include 37 apartments with an average size of about 726 square feet, plus 4,100 square feet of retail space. It was not clear whether it will include any affordable housing.

The site's listed owner is "Urban-Scape LLC," which shares a Brooklyn address with the real estate company Augenbaum. That company did not immediately respond to a request for details about the project, including when construction would begin.

The listed architect is Genaro Urueta of Studio Gallos Architecture, whose other projects include apartment buildings around Brooklyn.

One door west, the Victoria Theater project is approaching completion, with dozens of affordable apartments recently going up for grabs in the 27-story tower included in the development. A block east, meanwhile, construction is underway on the new 18-story building that will house the Urban League Empowerment Center — as well as a Trader Joe's and a Target.
