Permits Filed To Demolish East Harlem Commercial Building
A developer filed permits with the city this week to demolish a two-story building in East Harlem that currently houses a row of shops.

HARLEM, NY — A developer filed permits with the city this week to demolish a two-story building in East Harlem that houses a row of shops, city records show.
The city's Department of Buildings signed off on plans to knock down the building at 2226-34 Third Avenue, at the corner of East 121st Street. It houses the American Outlet clothing store, a Kennedy Fried Chicken and a third space that was formerly occupied by the clothing store Jans.
The applicant of record is Robespierre Aristilde from Long Island-based Age Engineering, LLC. The building will be taken apart from the inside, according to the permits.

The permits make no mention of any plans to redevelop the site after the demolition.
Construction sites abound in Harlem, which is undergoing a development boom. This month, permits have been filed to construct two separate eight-story buildings on Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

Construction has surged in East Harlem since 2017, when the city passed a sweeping rezoning plan for the neighborhood intended to encourage new business and residential development.
