14-Year-Old's Murderer Sentenced In Harlem
The victim was shot in the back of his head in broad daylight after leaving a deli, the district attorney said.
EAST HARLEM, NY — A Manhattan teen has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for shooting two teenagers, killing one, outside of an East Harlem deli, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.
According to Bragg, who announced the sentence on Wednesday, Jiniye Hooks, 19, was walking through the intersection at East 128th Street and Park Avenue on July 19, 2022, at 4:20 p.m. when he saw two boys leaving a deli.
Hooks pulled out a gun and started shooting, hitting 14-year-old Justin Streeter in the back of the head and a 15-year-old boy in the left leg, Bragg said.

Streeter was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the 15-year-old survived, Bragg said.
“A 14-year-old child lost his life due to this horrific act of gun violence,” Bragg said. “Mr. Streeter was beloved not only by his family, but his entire community. He had a bright future ahead of him that was tragically taken away and his loved ones are continuing to grieve his loss."

According to Bragg, Hooks pleaded guilty to one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in the second degree earlier this year.
"There is nothing we can do to undo the pain they are experiencing, but I hope this lengthy prison sentence allows them to move forward and end this difficult chapter," Bragg said.
