Two Men Shot Near Harlem Playground, Police Say

The men were shot Sunday night at the corner of West 145th Street and Lenox Avenue.

HARLEM, NY — Two men were hospitalized in Harlem after gunfire broke out Sunday night on a street corner near a neighborhood playground, police said.

A 43-year-old man was shot once in the face and a 34-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen just before 7 p.m. Sunday on the corner of West 145th Street and Lenox Avenue, an NYPD spokeswoman said. EMS rushed both men to Harlem Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Neither of the injuries are expected to be life threatening, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Police said a man in his 20s was seen fleeing the scene of the shooting. No arrests have been made in connection with the crime, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Harlem's 32nd NYPD precinct — which spans the area bound by West 127th Street, Fifth Avenue, St Nicholas Avenue and West 155th Street — has seen an increase in violent crime this year, according to the precinct's crime statistics as of Sept. 8. There have been 14 shootings in the precinct at this point in 2019 compared to 11 in 2018.
