Waiting List Opens For Harlem Mitchell-Lama Building

HARLEM, NY — A waiting list for studio and one-bedroom apartments at a Harlem Mitchel-Lama building is now accepting applications, according to the city's Mitchell-Lama Connect website.

The Bethune Towers complex — a high-rise building on West 143rd street and Lenox avenue — will accept applications to its waiting list until April 2, according to the city Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Rents for studios at the Bethune Towers complex range from $741 to $1,167 per month and rents for one-bedroom apartments range from $991 to $1,215 per month. Individuals must earn at least $29,640 to qualify for studio units and at least $39,640 to qualify for one-bedroom units.

Studios have a maximum household size of two people and one-bedroom apartments have a minimum household size of two and a maximum household size of three.

Applicants must apply through the city's Mitchell-Lama Connect website for either the studio or one-bedroom waiting list. Applicants will be entered into a lottery to determine who winds up on the wait list. A $200 fee will be required at the conclusion of the lottery.

Applications can also be mailed to: P.O. BOX 691, 82 Nassau Street New York, NY 10038. Mail-in applications must be addressed to either the Bethune Towers studio lottery or the Bethune Towers one-bedroom lottery.

Information that must be put on applications includes: Applicant's full first and last name, current address, last four digits of social security number and the bedroom size lottery. Applications that do not include all the required information will not be entered into the lottery.
