Community, Coffee And Conversations Series Kicks Off In Harrison
The inaugural caffeinated conversation dealt with the issue of addiction. Up next: the possible pitfalls of social media, grab a cup.

HARRISON, NY — The idea behind the Town of Harrison's new monthly Community Coffee & Conversations initiative is simple: bringing neighbors together to discuss topics that matter most to them.
The inaugural event was held September 21, and the topic was "Drugs, Alcohol and Addiction." The conversation was led by Dr. Christopher Aloezos and Eliza Zimmerer, LMSW, MPH. Attendees learned more about the concept of addiction as a disease and the reasons young people may be enticed by substance abuse. Attendees also learned how to explore the environment of a teenager and learn to spot signs of possible substance use and risky behavior- a training known as "Hidden in Plain Site." Narcan training was provided by Lily Neuman, Director of Community Outreach and Prevention Education.

Despite being a lot to take in over a cup of Joe, organizers report the event was well attended and very well received. The target audience was composed of parents and local law makers. NYS Senator Shelley Mayer, NYS Assemblyman 93rd District Chris Burdick and Harrison Mayor Richard Dionisio were all in attendance.
