Intoxicated Westchester Woman Drove 2 Miles On Metro-North Railroad Tracks: Police

Several Metro-North trains were delayed up to 30 minutes during the strange incident, according to MTA police.

NORTH WHITE PLAINS, NY — A wild and dangerous drive fortunately ended without anyone getting hurt, but resulted in the arrest of a Westchester County woman, according to police.

On Monday, around 6:10 p.m., the MTA Police Department received a report about a vehicle driving north on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line tracks, in North White Plains.

Investigators say the vehicle drove north, from the Virginia Road crossing, past the Cleveland Street crossing, and then past the Lakeview Avenue crossing, until becoming disabled around 400 feet north of the Lakeview Avenue crossing, in Valhalla.

The distance traveled on the tracks was around two miles, between North White Plains and Valhalla, according to police.

MTA police say that 44-year-old Sonia Alvarez-Nunez, of West Harrison, was arrested at the scene, after she failed sobriety tests.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle and no injuries reported.

Alvarez-Nunez was charged with driving while intoxicated, obstructing railroad crossing, and criminal trespass.

Due to the incident, several trains departing from Southeast and Grand Central Terminal were delayed up to 30 minutes, police said.
