A passerby noticed the children in the car with the windows closed around 3 p.m. and alerted a store employee who called the police.

When police arrived, Luongo-Devivo had returned to her car and, they said, her sons were both sweating profusely and their faces were flushed. Police said the children were in the car without proper ventilation for six minutes.

The children were checked for health issues at the scene, but did not need further medical attention, police said. The family’s neighbor picked them up, and police notified Child Protective Services.

Luongo-Devivo was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 1.
