Hauppauge Schools Celebrate 1st Responders
Students walked hand-in-hand around each school with their first responder family members or loved ones. Others created "thank you" signs.
HAUPPAUGE, NY — In honor of first responder recognition days throughout the month of May, Forest Brook Elementary, Bretton Woods Elementary and Pines Elementary in the Hauppauge School District honored the community’s first responders with special celebrations, the school district announced.
The events began with a firetruck and police car parade. Students walked hand-in-hand around each school with their first responder family members or loved ones. Student and staff spectators cheered as sirens and flashing lights lit up the walkways. The circles were lined with hand-written signs, thanking the first responders for their service.
After the parades, the students and first responders were invited into the schools’ gymnasiums for special assemblies. The students who were related to first responders presented them with heartfelt cards. The events ended with an exciting Suffolk County Police Department helicopter landing.
