Islip Woman Charged with Stealing $24G from Woodbury Employer

The money was spent on airfare and wedding expenses, the Nassau DA said.

A bookkeeper is charged with stealing nearly $24,000 from her Woodbury employer, and using the money for airline and wedding expenses, authorities said.

Alison Glass, 41, of Islip, was arraigned Tuesday on grand jury charges of third-degree grand larceny and three counts of first-degree falsifying business records, according to Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.

From about Nov. 8, 2012 and March 20, 2013, Glass allegedly stole $23,827.83 from her employer by writing out six checks to cash that totalled $10,295.99 on her company’s corporate checking account, and making $13,531.84 in unauthorized purchases on the company’s corporate credit card that had been given to her for legitimate business expenses. Glass’ personal charges on this card included airfare for relatives traveling from El Salvador, flowers sent to her mother, and supplies for her upcoming wedding, the DA’s office said.

Glass’ employer referred the matter to the DA’s office after noting that the corporate credit card bill was larger than usual, and included at least 12 purchases unrelated to the business. A review of the corporate checking account revealed at least six checks written out to cash that Glass had signed and endorsed, the DA’s office said.

“Thefts from private employers are not without victims,” Singas said, in a statement. “The losses end up hurting the broader economy as well.”
