Smithtown Prepares For Winter Storm; Crews Pre-Treat Roads, Urge Drivers To Stay Off Streets
Town officials say brining and plowing operations will continue overnight as snow is expected through Saturday.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Town of Smithtown officials say highway, parks, and public safety crews are preparing for a winter storm expected to impact the area late Friday through Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Suffolk County, forecasting hazardous travel conditions as snow moves into the region overnight.
According to town officials, the Smithtown Highway Department began brining and pretreating roadways and sidewalks on Friday, using a beet-juice brine to help prevent icing. Snow removal and treatment operations are expected to continue throughout the night and for the duration of the storm.
