Man Killed In Long Island Collision

His car overturned in a gas station parking lot after he collided with another car, police say.

ST. JAMES, NY — A man was killed in a Hauppauge crash early Thursday, Suffolk police said.

Stephan Tiarks, 58, of St. James, was driving a 2011 Buick northbound on Wheeler Road when he collided with a 2016 Mazda sedan at the intersection with Motor Parkway, police said. Tiarks's Buick continued northbound and overturned into the parking lot of the BP gas station, at 204 Wheeler Road.

Tiarks was pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.

The Mazda driver, a 27-year-old Sayville woman, and a passenger in the Buick, a 61-year-old St. James woman, also suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, police said.

Both cars were impounded for safety checks.
