NYPD Deputy Chief Michael Kemper said the incident started after a group of five people got into an argument with the 28-year-old victim on the street when one person started shooting, NBC 4 reported.

"It's very rare, this is highly unusual," said NYPD Deputy Chief Michael Kemper. "We're in area of Brooklyn, it's broad daylight... it's beautiful out, it's sunny, very active, as you can see, with thousands of people walking up and down the streets."

The 31-year-old man and the woman, who just left a job interview, were innocent bystanders in the shooting, NBC reported.

The victims were taken to Methodist Hospital where they're listed in stable condition, authorities said.

Police are still looking for the gunman — who was wearing a white hat and red shorts — who fled the scene after the shooting.
