Cyclist Critically Hurt After Brooklyn Bridge Crash, Police Say

The man was cycling on the roadway of the Brooklyn Bridge when he was struck by a car early Thursday morning, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A cyclist pedaling on the roadway of the Brooklyn Bridge was critically injured after he was struck by a car early Thursday morning, police said.

The 39-year-old man was riding over the bridge to Brooklyn when he was hit by a black Kia Optimum driving in the same direction at about 1:45 a.m., a spokesman for the NYPD said.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with head trauma and is in critical condition, police said.

The driver remained on scene and no criminality was suspected in the crash, authorities said.

Cyclists generally cross the span on a pedestrian path separated from car's and not on the bridge's roadway.
