Man Convicted Of Killing Ex-Girlfriend In Brooklyn Bridge Park
Lamont Wright was convicted for killing his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Marks, inside the park after stalking her for days, prosecutors said.

BROOKLYN, NY — The man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend in the head inside Brooklyn Bridge Park while she was leaving work was convicted of murder Tuesday, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.
Lamont Wright, 55, was convicted by a jury for killing Michelle Marks, 23, inside the park after stalking her for days. He faces up to 25-years behind bars for the murder.
"This defendant terrorized a young woman in a campaign of harassment and threats until he shot her dead in cold blood," Gonzalez said in a statement.

"It is heartbreaking that her life was cut short so senselessly and I’m grateful that, after a painstaking investigation, this killer has been held accountable."
Marks left her job at Fornino's pizzeria, near Pier 6, at about 9:30 p.m. on June 6, 2016 and was walking to the bus back home to Crown Heights when Wright showed up, prosecutors said.

She was on the phone with her then-boyfriend and told him "Babe, he's here, call the police, he's got a gun," when the line went dead, authorities said.
Wright shot Marks in the head and dropped her body in a lot near her bus stop, where she was found by police, prosecutors said.
Before the murder, Wright harassed his ex-girlfriend for weeks, including confronting her twice in person days before, and she planned to file a restraining order against him, according to prosecutors and DNAinfo.
On June 2, Marks was walking in the park with a co-worker when she spotted Wright. Later that night, he jumped out of the bushes while she was on a cigarette break and yelled at her for "kissing this white boy," authorities said.
The day before the murder, Wright waited for Marks inside her Crown Heights apartment building and followed her to her door when he pushed her, prosecutors said. Marks' boyfriend and mother confronted Wright, who ran out of the building before police could get there.
Facebook messages found by investigators show that starting on May 15, 2016, Marks tried to end their relationship but Wright refused and threatened her, prosecutors said.
"I promise you, you're not done with me, because either I'm gonna wind up in jail or I'm gonna wind up in a grave," Wright said in a audio message left to Marks.
Police arrested Wright the day after the murder for the stalking, but he claimed he was innocent and was talking with a girl named "Emily from Ohio," at the time.
Records showed that while he talked on Facebook to "Emily" before and after the murder, his cellphone was in he park at the time and not in his East Flatbush apartment, prosecutors said.
Wright was convicted of murder, criminal possession of a weapon and stalking for the killing and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 23.
