Driver Arrested For Fleeing Crash That Killed Pedestrian: Cops

The Nassau County crash occurred Wednesday morning, police say.

A man was arrested for leaving a scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian in Carle Place on Wednesday morning, police say.

According to authorities, Jose Monterroso, 57, of Carle Place, was driving a 2016 Toyota north on Glen Cove Road when he struck Myung Park, 68, of Westbury, while she was crossing the street at 5:25 a.m.

Monterroso then fled the scene and failed to properly notify authorities, police say. He returned back to the scene during the police investigation and was placed under arrest without incident, police say. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal auto accident.

A Nassau County Police Medic pronounced Park deceased at 5:40 a.m.

There were no other injuries at scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Monterroso's vehicle was impounded as evidence.

He will be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
