Former State Police Investigator From LI Dies Of 9/11-Related Illness

BETHPAGE, NY — A retired state police investigator has died from an illness resulting from his time at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Thomas Herrick, who was from Long Island, died on Saturday. He dedicated 26 years to the New York State Police, retiring in 2009.

Herrick's funeral is scheduled for Tuesday morning at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in Bethpage.

"His death is a solemn reminder of the lasting toll borne by those who responded selflessly in the aftermath of that tragic day," State Police Superintendent Steven James said.

Herrick is survived by his wife, Margaret “Meg” Herrick, and their three children — Thomas, Ryan and Matthew.
