Man Faces Arson Charge For Apartment Complex Blaze: PD

A total of 20 occupants were evacuated from the New Cassel apartment complex on Saturday morning, police say.

A man faces arson charges after police say he caused a fire at an apartment complex in New Cassel on Saturday morning.

Officers responded to an apartment complex on Prospect Avenue to find a working fire on the side of the building at 2:30 a.m. A total of 20 occupants from three apartments were evacuated as a result of the blaze.

Firefighters extinguished the fire. There were no injuries reported.

Following an investigation, police say 30-year-old Uniondale resident Dimitrov Henry was found to be responsible for the blaze. He was taken into custody earlier for allegedly harassing a 21-year-old woman prior to the conclusion of the arson investigation.

He was charged with second-degree arson and second-degree aggravated harassment. He was arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
