Nassau Opens 24/7 Warming Centers As Arctic Blast Freezes Area

The three warming centers are open to anyone who needs them, and are available right now.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — As an arctic freeze grips the area for the next few days, Nassau County has opened 24/7 warming centers for residents who need a warm place to go.

The warming centers will be open day and night to make sure no one is left out in the cold, officials said.

“Freezing cold temperatures coming to Long Island pose a serious threat to the health and safety of our residents” said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said. “Our warming centers will be open 24/7 to anyone who may need them so that no Nassau resident is stuck out in the cold.”

Weather forecasters are currently predicting temperatures to drop below 20 degrees for the next few days, with a wind chill making it feel even colder. The warming centers are open now and will stay open through Wednesday.

Nassau County will also have resources on hand to provide any mental health services residents may need, and programs available for the homeless. If residents see someone who may need shelter overnight, please call the Nassau County Winter Homeless Hotline 1-866-WARMBED (1-866-927-6233)
