Oyster Bay Makes Cooling Centers Available For Remainder Of Week

OYSTER BAY, NY — With hot and humid conditions in the forecast, Town of Oyster Bay residents can take advantage of cooling centers this week.

The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center: 1001 Stewart Ave., Bethpage and the Town of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center, 167 S. Broadway will be open Wednesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

"As temperatures increase, a combination of heat and humidity has the potential to become overwhelming, especially out in the direct sun," Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said.

Saladino gives other tips for dealing with the extreme heat.

• Make sure to stay hydrated.
• When possible, increase time spent in air-conditioning.
• Wear a hat and light, loose-fitting clothing.
• Check on relatives and friends, especially the elderly.
• Eat light, but nutritious food.
