Since opening in 1983, Peppercorns "welcomed thousands of guests and employed a few hundred people. It has turned into Hicksville's 'Cheers,'" a reference to the long-running sitcom where "everyone knows your name."
The owners said surviving 40 years in a building that is more than 130 years old is an "accomplishment of which we can all be proud of."
