Crash Causing LIRR Delays

This story was posted by Pam Robinson. It was written by Joe Dowd.

The Long Island Rail Road is experiencing 60-minute delays along its main line through Hicksville following the earlier crash of two work trains.

The delays impact both directions on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches due to the earlier suspension west of Hicksville. The railroad is operating trains on one of two tracks west of Hicksville while working to clear the track maintenance vehicles that were involved in the earlier incident from another track.

For example: The 3:27 p.m. train from Penn Station due Huntington at 4:33 p.m. is canceled due to congestion caused by the earlier suspension.

The crash took place just before noon, an MTA spokesman said. Four people were hurt on the two service trains. Two were transported to hospitals. None of the injuries are life-threatening.

The spokesman said service will disrupted on both the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines for some time.
