Huntington HS Student Arrested After Threatening Mass Harm: Police
A girl, 18, made a threat of mass harm on Snapchat, police say. Officers were called to the school Tuesday morning.
HUNTINGTON, NY — A Huntington High School student was arrested Tuesday in connection with making a threat of mass harm on social media, Suffolk police said.
Police were tipped that a student made a threat of mass harm on Snapchat, and Second Precinct officers responded to the high school, at 188 Oakwood Road, around 11:30 a.m., police said.
The female student, 18, was charged with making a threat of mass harm, police said. She will be taken for evaluation and will be arraigned on a later date, the department said.

Beth McCoy, superintendent of the Huntington Union Free School District, sent a letter to the school community, noting that the Suffolk County Police Department is actively investigating the situation.
The threat was deemed "non-credible," McCoy said.

"We understand that situations like this can affect students in various ways," McCoy said. "If your child feels the need to talk to someone about this or any other concerns they may have, please reach out to the mental health staff in your child's building for support."
McCoy said she wanted to "take this opportunity" to remind everyone about the "significant risks associated with social media and making threats."
"Such actions may have serious consequences and can impact our entire school community," McCoy said. "Rest assured, the Huntington Union Free School District is committed to working closely with our School Resource Officers and local police to ensure a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. Thank you for your attention and cooperation."
