Huntington Man, 71, Arrested After Wall Street Shooting: Police

Police say a 21-year-old man was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries following the early-morning incident.

HUNTINGTON, NY — A Huntington man was arrested following an early-morning shooting on Wall Street, Suffolk County police said.

John Rech, 71, of Huntington, was taken into custody after he shot another man who was chasing him at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The victim, a 21-year-old man from Fort Salonga, was transported to a hospital, where he is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Rech was charged with second-degree assault and was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

Police said Rech had a valid license for the firearm, which was recovered. Police declined Patch's request for the identity of the 21-year-old victim. The investigation is continuing.
